4H and FFA were wonderful things when I was was growing up. One of my 2 children were aggies as well. The program is designed for growth in horticulture, veterinary, welding, building cars, you name it. The fundamentals of how the world worked before electronics. It teaches the kids basic knowledge. But, the down side for you, is that it is very founded in America. God and Country type of stuff that will have your children confused?

Good luck with that
by Lost his mind inwhat is the big deal when you say "good luck with that" or he just had bad luck?
i have never been a jw, but what is the problem with saying these things?
my husband was so mad, he went to bed and would not talk to me.

I use "good luck to that" expression all of the time, sarcastically of course. I misspoke in my intro, sorry. We were watching Deadlest Catch and this one guy was having all kinds of misfortune happening to him. Hubby says the guys is on drugs. I said he is just having a run of bad luck. Then the proverbial sh*t hit the fan. He has never said anything to me when I have spouted "good luck with that". But deary me when I said " a run of bad luck".

Thank you all for the information.
Smiddy- I have been married for 28 years and he has been studying with them for 27 years. I thought it was all bull crap and he would see it that way. About 3 years ago he decided to get baptized,I put my foot down and said it was me or them. Two years of argument later, he picked me for some reason (I can get downright mean when I argue). He still has the JW mindset but he no longer attends meetings. I had no idea good luck or bad luck was a bad thing. For someone to not believe in luck is really odd to me and to believe it is wrong some how is even more bizarre.
He must have had an email from his JW sister yesterday, that usually sets him on fire for 3 or 4 days.

Solar power rip off! Aussie government destroyed free electricity. Scum!
by Witness 007 inso my friends have had free power for years thanks to solar panels and a great contract with power company.
they even get credits for having 20 panels on thier roof!
i put 18 solar panels on my roof cost $9900 dollars.

There is no way to store solar energy. Simple as that. Unless you have the huge amounts of batteries at your home to do this. The big solar fields that you see in california are basically useless unless the power is readily needed at that time. Repeat... you can not store this power unless the power companies themselves put in big battery farms. Hydro, a free source of power, and in my opinion, is the way to go. Sorry, don't mean to ruffle any feathers.

So my husband got a letter
by Lost his mind inso, he received a letter that i am wondering if it is one of those open letters that are out there to denote time given.
it starts out with the name of the person sending it, then goes into the spiel...do you know our god's name?
when i was shown what it is, i kind of got upset.

It starts out with the name of the person sending it, then goes into the spiel...Do you know our God's name? I know I didn't. When I was shown what it is, I kind of got upset. I asked myself why didn't my reverend ever tell us that? I was 24 at the time and had been to many different churches. Not once was any mention made of gods name. Jesus has a name. His disciples all have names. I have a name. Why are they keeping it a secret?
many more paragraphs than I choose to write come along afterwards. So is this a "chain letter" that they send out? Included is a brochure about what is gods name. This letter is typed but signed in the persons handwriting.
they are trying to get him back into the fold. I just want to know if this is a standardized letter that they send out. Sorry if I am making zero sense at all.

Speaking as a person who has been married to one for the last 28 years, please walk away. You will waste your life on their ideals. So much is banned because the bible supposedly says so. The bible does not, the men in New York do. It is a cult. Run away. Quickly. When you reach my age, you look back and realize that life would have been so much better without the person you are currently attached to. You only live once.

Let's call him brother.
by The Rebel indoor knocking has its occasional rewards, and if such a " newly interested one" advances to attend the " k.h" he will come in for a lot of complimentary praise.
in fact if he puts his hand up he is referred to us " our friend" .
" i am respected here" newly interested one " says to himself.

Ah, I could speak to the other side of the coin. As a woman, I was not love bombed as my husband was, or maybe I was just more pragmatic and saw through the, um bullcrap. I studied with 3 different women and could not see the value in joining the fairy tales. My husband on the other hand was raised by wolves , as I like to say to him. He had no family structure of what was right and wrong and was easily swayed into the fold. BUT, he was never baptized. He has studied with 4 different men over the last 25 years and wanted to take the plunge 2 years ago. I, the evil woman, put my foot down and said it was me or them. I was lucky that he picked me but he still has the jw mindset. I have pointed out to him the many flaws in their thinking and I hope he won't want to go back. I have made him live life in the last two years, picnics, wine tasting, going to the lake, visiting with friends outside the flock, reacquainting with friends when he was younger, being with family members that aren't in the "truth" etc. and he has begun to live again.
I did get off topic, but I have to say that I asked him pointed questions about doctrine that he could not answer or sometimes thought was odd. I would ask him to ask his instructor and he would not do this because he viewed it as wrong. This was a good statement by him because it was something I could respond to...... How do you learn without questioning? This opened his eyes a little. Sorry to butt in, but I had to say this.
